Hi friends of Stuart and Shay, A tribute to Stuart Weinger posted 8/23/2008
My name is Michael Loshin, (Class of 1956) an old Peekskill boy, now living in Los Angeles. Some of you may remember my folks, Rose and Archie, owners of Hudson Plate Glass Co, on Main Street and then on North Division St. You may have known my late older brother, David, or my younger sister Judy. My siblings and I traveled the Franklin Street Elementary School, Drum Hill Jr Hi, PHS circuit during the '40's and 50's.And like many of you, I have known Stuart most of my life.... My Uncle Jack Weinger is Stuart's older brother.
I attended Stuart's funeral yesterday.. and thought that you might be interested to know that Stu's send off was just as he lived his life ..positive and upbeat. It was a celebration of his life.
I was, except for Shay, the only Peekskill person present and took the opportunity to say a few words about this truly unique man ... a pillar of optimism.. a living definition of friendship and family whose creed was loyalty and generosity .. and though his life's journey took him to the opposite end of the country .. he never really left Peekskill, in heart and in spirit, and never lost his love for our home town and for his Peekskill friendships.
As you might expect, the simple service which took place on a picture perfect, bright, sunny Southern California afternoon, was, as Stu would have wanted (and would have most likely orchestrated), upbeat and cheerful, with numerous stories from people whose lives were helped or shaped by Stu's largess and business acumen.
Rabbi Stern's readings of some moving passages from the Reform prayer book,Gates of Prayer were inspirational and uplifting. The passage describing birth as the beginning, death as the destination and life as the journey we travel between those points was particularly appropriate and poignant.
Please know that your thoughts and prayers and memories are a source of strength to Shay and the family and I am sure a beacon of light as Stu traverses the Great Unkown.
