After last year's undefeated season, the Red Raiders turned in a creditable 1936 record of
four victories, two losses and one tie, despite many injuries.

Continuing where they left off last year, the Nicholsmen drubbed Pleasantville 19 to 0. The Red Raiders displayed much power while administering this defeat. Invading the Friendly Town, the Roosevelt Rough Riders accomplished the trick that many elevens previously found impossible. They cracked Peekskill's winning streak by holding the local team to a scoreless tie. Peekskill suffered double loss when Ed Doyle, aggressive end, sustained a fractured leg.

Underrated Ossining almost scored an upset, but Charlie Bolden saved the game by intercepting an Ossining pass and running 60 yards for the winning and only touchdown of the closely fought contest. Peekskill then journeyed to Middletown only to receive a sound beating. The Middies administered a 28 to 0 defeat to the Red Devils, their first in two years. The Red Raiders continued in a slump by losing to their traditional rivals, Washington Irving, by a single touchdown, 7 to 0.

Down hut not out, the Red Devils tackled Newburgh, considered one of the finest outfits in the Hudson Valley and consequently favored to win. However, the local heroes staged a great comeback, upsetting Newburgh 12 to 0.

Peekskill played host to Freeport and treated them to a 19 to 12 defeat and thus ended their season in a blaze of glory.

Demons of the Diamond

With thirty five students answering the call this spring, Coach John Devins has worked hard drilling fundamentals into this year's baseball squad. The team displayed a grand fighting spirit this year with one victory and three setbacks.

They opened their 1937 campaign against their Hudson River League co-champions, Pleasantville High School, on the Pleasantville field and when the game was over the Red Devils were on the light end of a 6 to 3 tally. Next on the schedule, the Prison City outfit from Ossining journeyed to the Friendly Town, with the result that the locals batted out a 7 to 4 win for their first victory of the season. Taking it on the chin, the locals dropped their next three games to Beacon, North Tarrytown and Washington Irving.

Those who rounded out the squad as a great bunch of hall players this year were: Joe Bittal, Bud McCann, Gerardo Verlinger, Chuck McGinnis, Ed Conley, Henry Scalzo, Larry Schwartz, Doc Lynch, Willard Baisley, Chet Zawacki, Chet Cornell, John Cannizzaro, Jim Bourne and John Jackson.

With six members of the squad underclassmen, Coach Devins is looking forward to a successful season next year.
